New Business:
1. The Stephen Mack Middle School nurse had contact Scott W regarding more Lens Crafters Certificates for eye glasses. Scott had made some calls to Lens Crafters, Wal-Mart and American Vision Center on their programs for the needy. Lens crafters has the best deal, $50 for an eye exam and glasses. Scott is going to get back to Wal-Mart to see if they can match that price. Zig made a motion and 2nd by Josh to approve the purchase of $1000 worth of certificates from either Wal-Mart or Lens Crafters, who ever can get us the best deal. Motion approved.
2. Steve Dickson announced the Rockton Lions Officer of the year nominee was David Cotter. Motion by Scott W, 2nd by Bruce W to elect Officer Cotter as the Officer of the Year.
3. Scott W brought up that earlier a member had inquired of the criteria for the Lion's Club scholarships. Currently one of the criteria is that a student must be a senior at Hononegah High School. It was brought up that we should benefit all children in the District, and some are home schooled or go to private school, and this excludes them. Scott said he would look into the possibility of changing it to 'any senior in District 207' as long as this stays with the intent of the scholarship. He'll report back when he has more information.
Old Business:
1. Tim Storm of Fatwallet.com would like to write his check for the matching funds before the end of the year. We currently have just $12539.00 of the $50000.00 he pledged. Scott would like permission to put our 'next years' donation of $10,000 into this year to be able to double that amount. He also urged anyone who wished to donate to do so this year, or to solicit from their employers or any other businesses they have a relationship with. Motion by Jean 2nd by Jack to move the $10,000 to the charities fund this year. Motion passed.
2. We received this entry to our "mission statement" homework:
"The Rockton Lions are a group of volunteers from the community dedicated to fundraising for the benefit of those within the community. Lions are also dedicated to helping those that are vision and hearing impaired through Lions International."
The club felt this was a good starting point for a mission statement, but a mission statement needs to be something we can all memorize and it was asked that everyone take a look at this and come up with a way to pair it down to something a bit simpler.
3. Reminder: Christmas Party is December 13th, 2007 at the Gun Club. Kerri asked if it would be preferred to have invitations emailed or snail mailed. Members choose email - Please RSVP to Kerri, you may order at the party off a small menu, separate checks will be available.
4. Steve Dickson has made progress on the Christmas Auction we have sport memorabilia items on consignment, as well as many local businesses who've donated. Joe Locke will donate his DJ service as music entertainment for after the auction. Motion by Jean, 2nd by Jack to allow Steve Dickson to spend up to $500 for advertising for the event.
5. Jack thanked everyone for their excellent participation in signing up to work for pancake day on December 8th.
6. Motion by Laree, 2nd by Josh to fund the Goldie Floberg kids meals and transportation to the pancake breakfast.
Motion by Josh, 2nd by Zig to adjourn. Meeting adjourned 7:35 pm.
