Presentation of an award from Lions International to Vice President Josh Brown for sponsorship of 2 new members.  Award was presented by Vice President Jerry Swenson

OSD update- Steve Pomahac-OSD kick off party April 28th at Fibs. Josh Brown is working on securing a couple of billboards for OSD advertising.  All the winners from RORO will be invited to the OSD kick off party to receive their winning admission “tickets” and or concert tickets.
OSD has been provided an opportunity to have a free booth at “The Concert” which is put on by the same group that did the Wing Ding.  This year it will be at The Rockford Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. The club will be able to do raffles and give aways, there are no rules for this event.  Volunteers will be allowed free admission to “The Concert” event.  Mike Peavy will handle getting volunteers.  We are also looking for the yellow OSD banner for this event.
There was a discussion brought up about having overflow parking at Hononegah High School and or Sonoco and to approach HHS that we could charge $5.00 a car and part of the proceeds will go toward their booster club.  It was decided since it is to close to festival time to put this together that it be tabled until next year and then it will be discussed further.  Approved 1st-Ron Nelson 2nd-Kim Peavy

Rose Day- Dick Adams (see attachment) Total sales $2358.00 131 dozen (total delivered 216).  Florist cost $930.00 check to Rockford Lions for delivery $45.00 tickets, posters, etc. $40.00.. Net profit for Lions Club $1343.00.. A special thank you to Dan Bellich and Steve Pomahac for helping to deliver the roses.

Visitor- Brad from the Fishing Tournament during OSD came to the club to see if the tournament would happen this year in conjunction with OSD.  There is some concern from the club that the weigh in did not happen on stage on OSD grounds as planned last year.  Need to work together to find a way to incorporate the event into OSD rather than appearing as a separate event.  **It was brought to the table that last year there was a vote for $250.00 seed money for the tournament and it was presented that the tournament may not have received the $250.00, Secretary  Kim Peavy will ask  Treasurer Kerri Wallace to look back in the records for verification**..Jack Lovejoy offered to pay $100.00 towards the tournament for this year as seed money.  It was decided to table this issue until the club and the fishing tournament committee can come to an agreement on how to incorporate the tournament into OSD better… This will be brought up for discussion at the meeting on April 21, 2011.  Mike Peavy will work together with Brad to try to come up with some ideas for incorporation.

Old/New Business:

  1. Rockton Cares-Kim Peavy passed around the newly changed Rockton Cares nomination form and letter for distribution to schools and newspapers, etc. (click to download) She advised she would do her best to get up to date on all websites. Club Treasurer, Kerri Wallace, is very busy with the OSD site therefore this may not get on the Rockton Lions Club site until after OSD.  Their was a discussion brought about the website maintenance- Mike Peavy advised since Kerri Wallace was not in attendance this should not be discussed.  Josh Brown advised this will be tabled until the next meeting.  The Rockton Cares form was approved motion passed 1st-Ron Nelson 2nd-Jerry Wallace…Per Ron Nelson, email to Newsletter@Rocktonchamber.com and Betsy Dohm advised to send to Shirland School District and Rockton School District, etc.  Request was made to send the form out via email to all members of the club for distribution within their own churches, etc.  Michelle Brown to share with The Rockford Register Star and Kim and Mike Peavy will share with The Herald via Marianne Mueller.

  2.  Kim Peavy advised she has been in contact and working with The Herald to try to have the club more “visible” in the paper by doing a Lions Club corner where readers can submit questions to the club and the club can post stories about things the club is doing and donations made, etc.
