Guests:

Susan Bohn – HHS Librarian – she is applying for a Technology Grant. She has a better chance to get the grant if there is community support. By support, she means having a letter from the Lion’s Club stating we will donate the money to purchase the additional computer tables that will be needed for the additional computers she may get. If she does not get the grant, we wouldn’t have to give the money. Motion by Zig 2nd by Dan to donate $619.18 for the computer tables if the grant is approved.

Don VanSchelven  -  Don runs the Rockton food pantry through the Old Stone Church. They help about 38 families a week with approx $80 worth of food each time. People are welcome to come each week if they wish.

We asked Charlotte and Paul, who have been quite involved with Wimpy’s fund for years their thoughts on using these funds to donate to the food pantry’s. They both felt that this was in the spirit of Wimpy’s fund and didn’t have a problem with it. Motion by Charlotte and 2nd by Bruce to donate $5000.00

Motion carried, Steve P wanted to make sure that this information on our donations to food pantries get out to the newspapers.

Cassandra, Jordan, and Betsy were all present as well, they are potential new members. We later discussed that we would conduct their swearing in ceremony at the Steak Fry in July.

Correspondence:

Rockton Chamber of Commerce sent a flyer for their golf playday. Think about if the Lion’s wants a foursome in the day, will discuss at next meeting.

Letter from Talcott Library asking if the Lion’s Club will still sponsor the ice cream rewards for the annual summer reading program. Motion by Zig and 2nd by Jack to fund again this year. Motion carried.

New & Old Business:

The Rockton In Bloom donation has been put on hold until their 501(c )3 status is clarified and we know who to send it to.

Update on the athletic fields: The village was denied the grant this year.

Lifetime membership: Last year the club approved Carl Street for Lifetime membership status. Kerri has recently found the forms to send this in. There is a $500 fee for this. Since the club has already approved him, it is agreed to go forward. Scott pointed out there were two other members eligible for this status, Jerry Wallace and Paul Cannell. Discussion whether or not to nominate one or more of the eligible members – Motion by Dick and 2nd by Bruce to nominate both Jerry and Paul to Lifetime membership status, and send in $1500 for all three.  Motion carried.

Kathy gave an update on the casino trip for this Saturday – 10am to 6:30 pm from the High School to the Casino. Still space available if you show up on Saturday.

Scott brought up that we need to fill out all our board member positions. We currently only run on about 1/3 of the board the Lion’s Club organization says we should have.

The recommended board members are:

President

Immediate Past President

1st Vice President

2nd Vice President

3rd Vice President

Secretary

Treasurer

Lion Tamer

Tail Twister

Membership Director

Director(s)

Scott would like nominations for these positions emailed back to either him or Kerri prior to the next meeting.

There was discussion on the pros and cons of having a separate business meeting with the board (all members would be able to attend, but only the board voting) many good points brought up on reasons for not having them anymore, etc. However there did seem to be a consensus that we do at the very least need to fill out the board positions, even if we don’t have separate board meetings.

Paul is going to look into having the steak fry at the boat club on July 17th.

We discussed whether the Stateline Mass Transit donation could come out of the Segzda fund. Dan stated we were given the fund with priority being to sight related donations but the Lion’s Club having final say and free will to donate it. The Stateline Mass transit does give service to a lot of visually impaired people who cannot drive on their own. Motion by Josh and 2nd by Jack to use the Segzda fund for this donation. Motion carried.

Please give any outstanding Sight and Sound tickets to Cathy ASAP.

Motion by Kerri and 2nd by Dan to adjourn. Motion Carried.

One note after the meeting, Cassandra spoke on behalf of the Winnebago County Association for the Blind and the Center for sight and Hearing. They are conducting bingo weekly on Thursdays and Fridays. They are looking for the Lion’s Club to send 2 volunteers one day a month to help with the bingo. We’d have to pick Thursday or Friday. Would last from 5:30 – 9:00 pm for the volunteer time. They are looking for us to start in July if we would commit. Please think about this, we can discuss at the next meeting if we have enough people who will volunteer for this.
