Meeting called to order @ 6:40 pm 17 members and 2 guests

 

Secretary’s Report:

Minutes previously emailed. Motion by Steve P and 2nd by Dick to accept the Secretary’s report. Motion Passed.

Motion by Dick and 2nd By Cathy to accept the Treasurer’s Report, motion passed.

 

 

Guests:

Ray Ferguson from Macktown Living History. Ray participated in the OSD meeting prior to the regular meeting.

Greg Welcher from Rockton Lions Baseball team, asking the team to sponsor some uniforms. We had purchased uniforms about 3 years ago, and they need uniforms for the coaches as well as a few more children. Scott W asked that the bball team come back and report every so often on their progress, as well as consider donating some time back to the Lions in exchange for these donations. Greg said they would be happy to donate time at our functions. Motion by Jack and 2nd by Augie to donate $750.

Kerri Wallace has started a team for “Walk Now” with Autism Speaks. The team members will do a 5k walk in Chicago in May and all funds go to Autism Speaks. (http://www.walknowforautism.org/chicago/personal/mitchelsmom ) The money goes towards awareness, research, respite, treatment, etc. There are walks in every major city this year for this cause. Kerri is walking on behalf of her son, Mitchel who is autistic. Motion by Dan and 2nd by Augie to sponsor Kerri for $500. Motion passed.

 

Correspondence:

  1. Thank you letter from Lora and Emma Porter for our donation.
  2. Community Foundation letter on status of rate of return on funds in account.
  3. American Cancer Society promoting local events.
  4. American Diabetes Association sent 2 letters thanking us for our donations.
  5. Camp Lions sent a letter asking to donate supplies to their camps or to sponsor a camper. Motion by Steve P and 2nd by Jerry to sponsor one camper. Motion Carried.
  6. Letter requesting an ad in the District Convention Booklet for $20. Motion by Zig 2nd by Steve P, motion passed.
  7. Zone meeting on Monday February 11, 2008 at the center for sight and hearing. Cost is $10 per person, any member is welcome to come. If interested please let Kerri know.
  8. Girl Scouts of Badger council thanking us for their $1000 donation.

 

New Business:

1. Scott Wallace had been asked by the fire department if the Lions Club would donate some car seats. The Fire dept has a program where they check car seats and if are found to be too small or not safe, they will replace it free if there is a need. Scott had found car seats at Wal-Mart and they were 50% off, he bought 6 of them for $205.00 total. He is asking if the club will reimburse him for this cost. Motion by Frank and 2nd by Augie to reimburse Scott and purchase car seats for the fire department. Motion passed.

 

2.  Kerri Wallace presented Cathy Bellich with a Membership Key in recognition of Cathy sponsoring 2 new members.

 

3. The Community Foundation sent letters regarding our upcoming scholarships. The Rockton Lions Scholarship needs $500 to fund and the Dr Loomis Scholarship needs $330 to fund. Eventually these funds will be self sustaining. Motion by Zig and 2nd by Steve P to fund these accounts, motion passed.

 

4. Dick Adams: Rose Day – nothing new at this time.

 

5. Request from the Easter Egg hunt committee for $300 towards the annual hunt. Motion by Jerry and 2nd by Steve P to donate $300, motion passed.

 

Old Business:

Reminder that the March 6th meeting has been changed to WEDNESDAY March 5th.  The meeting will still be at fibs.

 

Kerri passed around the Ro/Ro Sign up sheet. Thanks to everyone who signed up:

Dick Adams – Golf outing, we need to pick a date, Dick suggested the 2nd or 3rd Thursday. It was suggested that we do it on the first Thursday, September 4th, and during the dinner, we can have our first meeting of the year during the dinner. Dick will check and see if that date is available.

Cathy B – She has sight and sound raffle tickets, book is $10 or $1 each. They are due back the beginning of May, please take some books and sell them.

 

Zig has a report on Hog Heaven. This would be simply a Social Event for the members, and their families, perhaps any perspective members too. Cost is $30/40 per person (depending upon which menu items we choose) This cost includes all the food and the game, and a premiere seating area to watch the Rockford Ice Hogs. We must pay for a minimum of 50 members. We need to verify that we have enough interest to do this. Kerri will send an email to gauge interest, please look for that and respond accordingly.
