ROCKTON LIONS CLUB

OCTOBER 20, 2005

President Dan Bellich called the meeting to order at 6:40 PM, with 14 members and 6 guests present. The meeting was held at the Center for Sight and Hearing in Rockford, with Director Ray Hughes and President Diane Jones also present.

Motion by Zig Sekula second by Steve Pomahac to approve the minutes noting the following corrections: An additional $500.00 will be donated to the Christmas concert sponsored by the Rockton Chamber of Commerce. Motion carried.

Treasurer Zig Sekula reported the fund balance as $184,103.10. He also reported on the following:

1) Candy Day Sale - Proceeds were $2,491.86 with the cost for the candy as $396.00.

Cathy Bellich noted that last year RBR Trucking donated the amount to cover the

cost of the candy and she would call them again asking if they would like to

do the same for this year.

2) Outstanding OSD Donations. Zig reported that Finley GMC ($250.00) , Laidlaw Bus

Co. ($100.00) and Fantasy Limousine ($500.00 of the pledged $1,000.00) have all

paid their pledged amounts. The only outstanding pledge is Jessica’s Restaurant for

     $50.00.

It was also noted that Jody Gummow of the Girl Scouts will provide the club more information on the funds needed for the annual Girl Scout trip

Motion by Dick Adams second by Jerry Wallace to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.

Steve Pomahac reported that the Illinois Special Events Network is conducting a seminar called “Reaching New Levels”. He was seeking permission to send two individuals to this seminar, which he thought would be a great benefit in learning more about conducting special events, in particular, Old Settlers Days.

Motion by Dick Adams second by Zig Sekula to authorize expenses to send two club members to the “Reaching New Levels” seminar at a cost of $60.00 per person. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Jerry Wallace second by John McVay to approve a donation to the Rockton

Police Department in the amount of $1,700.00 to purchase a defibrillator. Steve Pomahac explained that he had met with Chief Dickson to discuss the invoice the Rockton Police Department had sent for security detail for Old Settlers Days. Since there was some confusion on the original agreement for police security it was agreed that giving a monetary donation to purchase a defibrillator would be an equitable settlement.

Motion carried unanimously.

Shannon McGaw stated she will chair this year’s Sight and Sound Sweepstakes event.

Motion by Jerry Wallace second by Dan Bellich to approve the donation of $500.00 to the Kaitlyn Steines Foundation. It was explained that Kaitlyn is a one year old girl from Libertyville, Illinois stricken by a sudden illness that has left her totally disabled and on a feeding tube. Motion carried unanimously.

Char Larrison reported that she needs volunteers to help distribute food and gifts through Wimpy’s Foundation. It was suggested that Char create a task list from which members will sign up to volunteer.

Motion by Scott Wallace second by Zig Sekula to approve the donation of $25.00 for an ad in the Hononegah cheerleaders fund raising campaign. Motion carried unanimously.

A presentation of a $50,000.00 check from the Sgzeda Fund was made to the Center for Sight and Hearing, with Director Ray Hughes and the president Diane Jones accepting.

Mrs. Jones thanked the Lions Club and stated the donation would be well used.

The meeting was adjourned and club members were invited for dinner served by the

Center.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 PM on November 3, 2005 at Fibs.
