Correspondence:

Invitation from the Golden Apple Foundation to their banquet Friday April 25, 2008. Two members will go.

Custom cruises & more sent a thank you for booking our annual cruise fundraiser, they also included a check for $200.00. Dale Adams made note that this was the smallest amount they’d received ever.

Boy Scout Troop 619 sent a thank you for our donation of $5091.00, offered their services of a color guard if we ever need one.

Invitation to the Rockton Chambers Annual dinner.  Steve P asked if the Lion’s club will sponsor the Chamber’s Playday for $80. Motion by Dale, 2nd by Joe. Motion carried.

New & Old Business

Rose Day – Dick A says the good news is we’ve sold more about 240 dozen this year (we did around 100 dozen last year). About 9 members have volunteered to deliver Saturday April 5th – we will meet at Ferguson Financial’s parking lot at 8:30 am.

District Convention: Scott reported that he and Kerri went to the convention last weekend. There was good information on new member orientation, and grants. We may be able to received $1500 grant in matching funds to advertise for Lions/OSD. Scott made a motion and a 2nd by Zig to donate 2 VIP passes for OSD to the convention’s silent auction.

Advertising – speaking of advertising, Scott also contacted Lamar who runs the local billboards around the area. They have a non-for profit program, we get about 30 days for just the cost of printing the posters (175.00).  Scott suggested that this may be a good way to advertise for Lion’s Club and/or Old Settler’s days, depending if we did it over time or just before OSD. There was discussion regarding the placement/timing/ and what we advertise on these. Scott will look into the information further.

Casino Trip – Kathy has about ½ the people needed for the casino trip. She must know by April 17th. Please contact her ASAP if you plan on going!

Our next meeting is Thursday April 17th – and it will be at the Rockton Inn.

Jerry W made mention of an article in the Rockford paper regarding the Athletic fields and the matching funds from Fat Wallet. The Lion’s Club was not contacted regarding this article, and we’re not sure how it was initiated. There was some discussion that the deadline may not have been firm, but the article now closes that door. There is just under $30,000 in the fund to be matched, meaning we missed out on $20,000 in funds. There was a lot of discussion regarding how much the Lions Club should do, if funding the entire amount should be our mission. Dale also went on to explain some details on how the grant cycles work.

Motion by Zig, 2nd by Josh to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:35 pm.
