Village Planter Project Lion Kerri brought up that we need a chairperson(s) to take over these activities (spring planting, Christmas decorating). Lion John P. elaborated that it would need to be someone who has a good working knowledge of plants that will climb and fill; and do well in full sun. (All eyes moved to the two nursery owners in the room). Lions Jamie and Lindsey Swanson volunteered to take this over together. Leo Club Eight Leo members traveled with Lion Justin and the HHS Special Olympics basketball team down to the state tournament. The team finished in third place overall at state. Lion Justin shared it was the best example of integration he’s ever seen. The Leos helped chaperone off hour social activities for the athletes as well as coached them through their games. Bowling began on March 7th with 16 Special Olympic athletes participating. The Leos assist with this project as well. Parents were coming up to our Ro/Ro booth with thank yous all weekend. Future Leader Dog Astro and his mama Lion Jeanna were also there. Amazing how even at 8 weeks old, Astro is able to sense the difference between children and those that are special. Four Leos participated in The Polar Plunge with Lion Justin. They raised about $1600 on very short notice. Kudos to all of them! OSD March 31st is the kickoff party at FIBS from 5p-7p. Wear your Lions gear. Lion Steve P. went over the soft pack cooler idea with the general membership. Like the FB page and posts. Please share them. Headliners will begin to be announced Tuesday at 5am via FB.
Rose Day SELL SELL SELL! More tickets are available if needed. Sign-up sheet not ready yet. Tickets and money can be dropped off at Lion Cathy Bellich’s State Farm Office, Lion Steve Pomahac’s Macktown Insurance office. They can also be brought to meetings and dropped off there. Last day to sell is April 8th. Lion Dick Adams challenged each Lion to sell 10 dozen roses each. RO/RO Expo Lion Kevin says “It’s over.” This year was different due to the change of venue and the distance from our table inside to where the busses actually were parked. The busses serviced 37 hearing screenings and 20 Diabetic Retinopathy screenings during the Expo. Four folks were diagnosed with significant hearing loss and referred to see a specialist. Future Leader Dog Astro was there to give us some extra visibility and draw traffic to us with his absolute cuteness.
General Business: Lion Kerri noted that Past Presidents would be meeting in about a week for the nominating committee. She is targeting the 23rd for this to happen. Sight and Sound Sweepstakes ticket stubs and money can be turned in. Lion Scott Wallace was a winner in the $20 for Plenty raffle already this Lion year. Lion Dale Adams asked about Shelter bids. Motion to adjourn after the 50/50 made by Lion John seconded by Lion Derrick. Jim Sahlstrom won the 50/50 (again) $69 who donated it back to the administrative fund.
