The Rockton
Lions Club is leading the effort to raise donations for our
Rockton Athletic Fields. These improvements will add much
needed space for our local baseball, softball, soccer and
football teams; encouraging our youth to participate in
structured team activities that create a solid foundation
for our future community leaders.
The Rockton
Lions Club has already pledged a $20,000 donation to jump
start the project. Joining the Lions Club is
Fatwallet.com, a
local online shopping community based in Machesney Park.
Fatwallet.com has
pledged to match the first $50,000 donated to the Rockton
Athletic Fields. With that donation, we only need to raise
an additional $90,000 to receive a $400,000 grant from the
state of Illinois. With the extreme generosity of our
wonderful community, the grant could be approved and
finalized by the beginning of 2008. This would allow us to
complete phase one of the project by the fall of next year.
The
Rockton Lions Club has been the catalyst for improvements to
our community for many years, including a similar donation
to renovate Settlers Park several years ago. In addition to
the hugely popular Old Settler’s Days, the Lions Club
organizes several other fund raisers throughout the year
including Candy Day, Rose Day, the annual Christmas Parade
Auction and the Golf Play Day. All the proceeds from these
events are funneled directly back into the community. Please
